The Temple Micah Library: A User's Guide
Temple Micah has an evolving and functioning lending library of more
than 4,000 volumes, including a considerable reference collection and
annual subscriptions to several journals and newspapers. The library
resides in two places: the upstairs Reading Room off the galleria and
downstairs in the Beth Midrash. The Reading Room contains a large
collection of non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and four special sections:
Biography, Family Life, Kol Isha, and Cookbooks. The new Reading Room
is a place to relax, browse and borrow whatever is of interest. Many
beautiful art books reside there, as well.
The Beth Midrash houses the reference collection, as well as books on
Bible and Talmud. There is a special niche full of great books for our
children. Other than the reference books, marked with a red dot, the
holdings may be borrowed by any temple member.
Each circulating book contains a pocket in the back with a card. Please
record the date and your name. Leave the card in the box provided.
There are no firm due dates, but please return borrowed books as soon
as possible.
Book donations are welcome at any time. New and appropriate materials
will be added to the collection. Members are asked to donate at least
one book each year. The library has dedication bookplates to place in
books upon request. Our annual Book Fair at Politics and Prose is a
great place to shop for a donation. Also, we are eager to receive books
on any subject written by Temple Micah members. The library cannot
accept textbooks, small print paperbacks, religious school primers or
prayer books.
Jenny Shankar is our current librarian. Questions about the library can be directed to her.
