Downtown Discussion Group
The group will engage in a year long study devoted to reading and discussing Lawrence A. Hoffman’s Beyond the Text: A Holistic Approach to Liturgy. From the jacket: “[Lawrence] Hoffman provides a new paradigm in liturgical study, bringing it squarely in line with the methodological advances already common in other areas of religious studies. By stretching the safe and secure contours of the textual study of liturgy, he opens up the world of Jewish prayer—indeed all prayer—to the academy at large. With the publication of Hoffman’s book, the study of liturgy will never be the same."
