Rabbi Baer of Radoshitz, who later became a Hasidic master, once asked of his teacher, the Seer of Lublin, “Show me one general way to the service of God.” The seer replied, “It is impossible to tell people what way they should take. One way to serve God is through the teaching; another, through prayer; another, through fasting; and still another is through eating. Everyone should carefully observe what way the heart pulls, and then choose that way with all the strength of one’s being.
