Next Steps
Next Steps study groups are led by alumni of prior Adult B'nai Torah classes - Temple Micah members and other interested people are welcome to join these groups at any time, as the conversations are ongoing.
Reading Heschel: Studying the Jewish theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel. No previous knowledge of Heschel is necessary, just an interest in getting together and discussing the works of a fascinating Jewish thinker to which all are welcome.
This year’s discussion focuses on two books, read in tandem: Heschel’s Man’s Quest for God and the The Seven Beggars tales of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. An unconventional pairing perhaps, but they are related in the sense that both are rooted in Chasidism. So we will look at expressions of this tradition from the early 19th century and the mid-20th century. We may not always find the connections but the effort will surely stimulate lively discussion.
The group will meet at Temple Micah the fourth Thursday of of each month from 7 - 8:30 p.m at Temple Micah. For more information, contact Next Steps - Heschel.
Studying the Prayerbook: This group is exploring the prayerbook, Mishkan T’fillah, and studying, prayer-by-prayer, Shabbat services. To understand the background, intent, vocabulary, and nuances of each prayer, we are looking at the ancillary material in the book, and using Larry Hoffman's My People's Prayerbook, The Sh'ma and its Blessings--Volume 1. All are welcome to join in these guided discussions over dinner.
This group meets the third Wednesday of each month from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in members' homes. For more information and location, contact Next Steps - Prayerbook.
