The Omer Project

You shall count for yourselves -- from the day after the Shabbat, from the day when you bring the Omer of the waving -- seven Shabbats, they shall be complete. Until the day after the seventh Sabbath you shall count, fifty days... -Leviticus 23:15-16

In Jewish life we count the weeks between Passover - the time of our redemption from slavery - and Shavuot - the time of the giving of the Torah. These two events are inextricably linked. At Temple Micah we linkt hese two holidays by providing reading material on a single subject once each week during this time period.

This year, we have chosen the embattled region of Darfur in Sudan. It is our hope that members of our congregation will not only learn something about the situation, but will be spurred to further action, so that others can experience redemption similar to the one we reenact every year at this time.

One who saves a life, it is as if he or she has saved an entire world.
