Dramatic one-woman presentation for the entire family of the true story of one young girl’s passage to a new life in Washington, D.C.
The presentation recounts the story of Anna Shulman "Queen of H Street" as she settles into her neighborhood of Northeast Washington in the 1920's--a neighborhood filled not only with Jewish immigrants, but also with Italian,
Irish, German, and African-American families. Anna’s husband opened a dry goods store and all her
children helped run the business. She helped found the Hebrew Sheltering Society, where
new immigrants could get a change of clothes, a safe place to sleep, and kosher
meals.
This is a production designed for the entire family by the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington and features actress Susan Holliday.
