Reception to follow.

Dear Members of Temple Micah,

For the last several years, you have been asked to pledge and pay for our new building addition.

You pledged and you paid – big time.

Now…let the digging begin!

Please join us Sunday morning, June 1, when Temple Micah members and guests will celebrate the start of construction of our new addition with a joyful ceremony of music, prayer, and food.

To include as many people as possible, the groundbreaking event has been scheduled to dovetail with the annual membership meeting, which starts at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony will follow immediately – roughly at 11 a.m. – and end with a bagels-and-lox-and-cake-and-champagne brunch. Rabbi Daniel Zemel promises we will finish in time for members to attend the Israel at 60 celebration on the National Mall.

The Temple’s groundbreaking ceremony was prepared by Rabbi Zemel and Teddy Klaus and marks a milestone in the 45-year life of Temple Micah. “It marks not only our growth in numbers,” said Rabbi Zemel, “but our spiritual growth as a community as reflected in the explosion of activities, classes, and groups of all sorts. This addition will enable us to further our mission of learning, good deeds and sense of community to all who enter our doors.”

At its heart, our building unites three houses under one roof: Beit Tefila, a house of prayer; Beit Sefer, a house of study; and Beit Knesset, a house of community. The planned renovations respond to the strain on facilities, while thoughtfully expanding or reconfiguring the Temple’s three houses so that all generations can worship together, study together, and celebrate the spiritual moments of life’s passage together as one community.

The Groundbreaking Committee is headed by Jonah Gitlitz and consists of Rabbi Zemel, Teddy Klaus, Betsy Broder, Jacqueline Simon, and Susie Blumenthal.

Rabbi Scott Sperling, regional director of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Union for Reform Judaism will be with us for the ground breaking
