Bar/Bat Mitzvah Background

For the meeting on January 5, 2003, Kol Isha discussed Jewish women's roles and cycles as the group explored the topic of Bar/Bat Mitzvah.  Marina Fanning led the group in a discussion of the difference between becoming Bat Mitzvah (a daughter of the commandment) as a rite of passage during adolescence and being called to the Torah for the first time as an adult.  The group discussed the notion of fulfilling mitzvot (commandments).
