Michael Dine is a physicist, specializing in the theory of elementary particles and in cosmology. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Stanford Linear Accelerator and then for five years a Member of the Institute for Advanced Study. Subsequently he was a faculty member for five years at City College of the City University of New York and then for 30 years at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is the author of numerous papers and a popular book, This Way to the Universe. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Member of the National Academy of Sciences.

At our November gathering, he will give a brief survey of our understanding of the history of the universe, starting with the Big Bang, extending to the present and speculating on the future.
