Micah "Green Team" Strives to Make Building Energy Efficient
Temple members have formed a new environmental group to ensure the existing building and the upcoming renovation are energy efficient.
The Micah "Green Team"--Paul Shapiro, Alan Cohen, David Pansegrouw, Peg Blechman and Liz Poliner--has scheduled a community- wide meeting at 1 p.m., Oct. 22.
The team also drafted a statement of environmental principles, which states that Micah "recognizes that environmental issues are an essential part of tikkun olam," or repairing the world. "Therefore, Temple Micah will devote attention, resources and energy to apply this principle to itself, its members and the broader community in order to preserve, sustain, and repair our environment."
The group's goals call on the temple to design and operate its building in an environmentally sound manner, incorporate environmental principles in Jewish education, help members and others learn about and take action on environmental problems, use Jewish holidays to teach and act on environmental issues and be a leader on environmental stewardship in the Jewish community and beyond.
