Parenting Group Tackles Common Challenges
Once a month on Thursday mornings (Feb. 10, March 17, April 21, May 19) from 10:15-11:30, a group of mothers and fathers meets for a thought-provoking discussion on parenting--and all that goes with it.
This has become a lively, confidential and engaging way to meet with people who are experiencing similar events in the lives of their families. We eat breakfast together and base our discussions on The Blessing of a Skinned Knee: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Self-Reliant Children, by Wendy Mogel.
So far, we have focused on creating our own list of subjects to be tackled, which not surprisingly, is very similar to the outline in the book.
We have discussed how to deal with the holidays in December, how to accept our children as they are, how to avoid societal pressures and how to promote honoring parents, teachers and grandparents.
As we continue, our challenges will be about teaching gratitude and self-control, valuing the moment and God, learning how to allow our children certain freedoms and responsibilities and learning how best to discipline, among other topics.
We welcome your participation in this new group at Temple Micah. Babysitters are available. Please email < a>to be placed on the e-mail list and for further information.
