Kol Isha Studies Jewish Women In Prayer and in Modern Life

(February 2008 Vine)

For the next two months Kol Isha (A Woman's Voice) will be having wonderful programs featuring Rabbi Manewith and Rabbi Warshaw. On Feb. 10, Rabbi Warshaw will be speaking about "Jewish Women's Voices in Prayer." She will be discussing the contributions that Jewish women have made to prayer from the biblical era to today. We will explore what makes a prayer a woman's prayer: does it have different agendas; does it use different language; is it attuned to different things?

Rabbi Manewith, on March 9, will be leading a panel discussion with women from the different Jewish denominations. They will address what it means to live as a Jewish woman today, and everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions and contribute from their own experience. Kol Isha meets at Temple Micah from 1-3:30 p.m.; all are welcome.

Tot Shabbat continues to thrive once a month from 5:30-7 p.m. The service, for families with children from newborn through first grade, lasts 30 minutes and is followed by dinner and craft activities. These gatherings are a great opportunity for members and non-members to meet others with children of the same age. The children learn synagogue skills and Jewish music and prayers in a casual, fun atmosphere. The next Tot Shabbat will be Feb. 8.

Also for the pre-school set is K'tonton, a weekly group that gathers on Friday mornings. For more information please email ktonton.

Adult B'nai Torah and Hebrew Level 2 and Level 3 classes are continuing weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. Rabbi Manewith leads Torah study from 7- 7:30 and then she, Miriam Grogan, and I teach the Hebrew classes until 9 p.m. Rabbi Manewith's class is still open to new participants. If you would like to find out more, please email me.

I look forward to worshiping and studying with you for the rest of the year.
