350 Years in Song: A Celebration of Jews in America
Temple Micah's three choral ensembles will join more than 24 synagogue singing groups from Washington, Maryland and Virginia at the new Strathmore Music Hall in Bethesda on Saturday, March 19, to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Jewish Settlement in America.
The 8 p.m. concert will feature 400 singers ages eight to 80 - cantors and choirs from Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist synagogues - joining their voices in a special evening of music that captures the richness of the American Jewish experience. Award-winning journalist Marvin Kalb will host the evening. Tickets are available from the Strathmore Box Office.
Highlights include a communitywide Havdalah; Rachelle Nelson's "Shehecheyanu;" Prince of Egypt's (and Temple Micah's Shabbat Shira Spectacular) "When You Believe" with the combined children's choir; a medley of five settings of "Oseh Shalom" that I recently arranged; Benjie-Ellen Schiller's magnificent "Hal'luhu" featuring our own Meryl Weiner; Irving Berlin's setting of the famous Emma Lazarus poem, "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor" and a rousing finale of "God Bless America."
Strathmore Hall was selected because of its beautiful new theater and convenient location at 10701 Rockville Pike in Maryland. It offers accessible and ample parking and Metro access.
Ticket prices range from $18-$36, $9 for children up to age 12.
