Mordechai Meets McCartney: Actors Wanted for Fab Four Purim

[November 2006 Vine]

Calling all thespians! Mark your calendar for 12:45 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, for the first meeting of the second annual Temple Micah Purim Schpiel. Last year's extravaganza, East Side Story, was a smash hit that set the bar somewhat high for future productions. This year's show, Purim-Beatles Style, is sure to be a hit as well.

How can we miss with such numbers as: "Estherday," "I Want to Hold Your Yad," "Oy Va Voy, Oy Va Voy, Life Goes On," "Shekel Lane," "Imagine There's No Haman" and "Hey Jews"?

We will welcome all actors, singers, dancers, costume mistresses, lighting designers, production assistants, and any other interested parties who gather in the sanctuary after Religious School Nov. 5. We rehearse every Sunday that school meets, and the big service/show is the evening of Saturday, March 3. Join us and be a part of this fabulous new Micah tradition.

The worship experience of the past High Holidays was the deepest and most meaningful of my tenure at Temple Micah. From the hush of S'lichot, to the stirring Erev Rosh Hashanah "special" prayer, `Lo Teida Milchama,' to the beauty of the cello on Kol Nidre, to our high schoolers' expert chanting, to the last strains of Havdalah featuring Temple Micah's b'nai mitzvah alumni, this was a season to remember.

There are many people to thank. The Temple Micah Volunteer Choir rose to the occasion with determined and intense preparation. Thank you to all its members {names omitted}. Your voices lifted us "on angel's wings." You proved that good, hard work truly pays off. From the bottom of my heart, thanks to each and every choir member.

The young chanters make us all (and especially their parents) proud. Thank you to all of them {names omitted}. Your participation in our worship at such an exalted level means more to the adults of our community than you can imagine. Thank you for all of your hard work in preparing your portions.

The instrumentalists added so much depth to our services. Thank you all {names omitted}.

Finally, a hearty todah to our shofar blowers, Logan S. and Lena C., and to Emily H., who prepared the solo of Leonard Bernstein's 23rd Psalm but who did not get a chance to sing with our choir, due to illness. And a special thank you to the wonderful Meryl Weiner, who continually touches our collective souls.
