Building Expansion: On Track and Recruiting Talent

December 2004

The Temple Micah Board, at its November meeting, enthusiastically endorsed the plans for building expansion as well as the capital campaign to cover the cost. This resolution followed a careful analysis of the Feasibility Study and a thorough review and discussion of the issues involved in the undertaking.

Uppermost in the minds of the Board was the need to keep member concerns and interests in the forefront and to execute well. We wanted to proceed carefully and be less concerned with a fast-track timetable.

As you know, the results of the Feasibility Study were extremely positive and encouraging. Not only do members feel a great sense of community with Temple Micah, but overwhelmingly support expansion and the capital campaign and view them as important priorities.

Rabbi Zemel articulated so well the vision for expansion and the future of our wonderful congregation: "When you talk to those most in the know in the area of synagogue studies and the American synagogue, Temple Micah is considered one of the great congregations of North America. We are. It is that simple. They look to us as a model. The level of our activity. The sense of connection of our membership. The engagement of our worship. We cannot stop. I dream of even more for us--more Torah, more study, more tikkun, more human growth, more connection. We simply need to expand in order for the Congregation to continue to grow in spirit and deeds."

As for the immediate planning, we are working with our professional consultant, Andrea Glazer, who has provided exceptional guidance. We will be working on preliminary plans in December with the campaign launch in January. That will include scheduling member meetings (small and large) to discuss plans and producing related campaign literature highlighting our goals and vision. We will be forming special committees. If you would like to participate, please email Susie Blumenthal. We welcome your help.
