Annual Meeting to Outline Temple Finances, Plans for Israel Trip
June-July 2005
As this report is being written, we are preparing for the annual membership meeting on June 5, a very important event in our year.
A major issue at the May board meeting was the discussion of the annual budget as presented by treasurer Kit Wheatley. We're pleased to report that the budget is projected to once again produce a modest surplus.
Dues income continues to grow and was much stronger this year 2004-2005 than last year. And we anticipate this will stay strong next fiscal year. Membership units (households) now number 434 compared with 413 a year ago.
Both long-term and new members have been very giving in their annual dues payments.
There were concerns expressed regarding Religious School payments, some of which have been very slow in coming. A full explanation of the 2005 budget will take place June 5.
The board also re-constituted the Building Committee, chaired by former board member Harry S.. Its main purpose is to work with our architects at architrave to monitor construction bids and costs, and to correlate expenditures with the status of the Capital Campaign.
The progress of that campaign was also reviewed. By now you have received the outstanding information packet for the campaign, called Building Connection. The materials describe the scope of the project and the reasons for it, and provide the design sketches. It suggests ways of supporting the campaign to help reach our important goals
Rabbi Zemel also reported on plans to conduct another Temple Micah mission to Israel next spring. The working dates are March 29 to April 9, 2006.
Finally, this marks my last report to you as president. I want you to know how much the last two years have meant. In the life of Temple Micah, it has been a momentous period as we build for the future.
For me personally, it has been a great experience. Busier than I thought it would be, but very rewarding. I want to thank the leadership of Rabbi Zemel, a very astute and caring board and an outstanding staff for all that has been accomplished.
Most important, I want to express appreciation to this wonderful community of congregants who are very giving of themselves and supportive of Temple Micah's religious, educational and social activities.
