Monday, October 3, 09:00 am.   Rosh Hashanah Young Family Service (Newborn through lst grade) at Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church (MMUMC), Great Hall (Upstairs in the newer wing), 3401 Nebraska Ave. NW, corner of New Mexico Ave. across from American University.   The Young Family service is geared towards families with children younger than first grade. The service in the Great Hall lasts about 30 minutes and childcare is offered during the remainder of the morning services.

Monday, October 3, 10:00 am.   Rosh Hashanah Children's Service - (Grades 2 through 6) at Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church (MMUMC), Great Hall (Upstairs in the newer wing), 3401 Nebraska Ave. NW, corner of New Mexico Ave. across from American University.   The Children's Service is for children in grades 2 through 6. It lasts approximately 45 minutes and is held in The Great Hall. Children attending the children's service can be dropped off at 10:00 am (with pre-registration) for supervised activities in the youth lounge. Children may return to the Youth Lounge for a snack after their service until they are picked up by their parents.

Sunday, October 9, 10:00 am.   All Community Machon Micah - Tashlich (at Rock Creek Park) at Rock Creek Park, 3901 Shoemaker Street NW (Just South of Pierce Mill).   Rock Creek Park, 3901 Shoemaker Street NW (Just South of Pierce Mill) Held on the Sunday after Rosh Hashanah at Rock Creek Park , the Tashlich ceremony offers us a chance to symbolically cast our sins of the previous year into the water and begin the New Year with a fresh start. We will gather by the river for a brief service, followed by time for picnics, field games, and catching up with friends old and new. In an effort to protect the beauty of the park, please do not bring bags of bread. We will cast pebbles and dust from our pockets instead. Please bring a picnic lunch for your family, blankets to sit on, and sports equipment if you so choose.

Wednesday, October 19, 12:00 pm.   Lunch and Learn with Bob Dorfman: The Dutch and Flemish Collection at The National Gallery of Art from a Jewish Point of View at Social Hall.   An introduction to the 17th century Dutch and Flemish collections at the National Gallery of Art. A number representative paintings are used to illustrate some important themes. Since the paintings often contain hidden messages that were understood by contemporary viewers, it is useful to learn how to “read” them. Several paintings illustrate stories from the Hebrew Bible, albeit with changes provided by the artist. All of the paintings in the collection have interesting histories as objects in themselves and two with particularly close ties to recent Jewish history will be discussed. Paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Steen, Solomon Ruisdael, and many others will be used as illustrations.
