Help the Homeless Miniwalk
Fall walk to benefit Micah House. Oct. 28, 2012.
Every October on a Sunday -- in 2012 on Oct. 28th -- families in the religious school and other members of the congregation join in a "mini-walk" to benefit Micah House, Temple Micah's transitional housing program for homeless women in recovery from substance abuse.
The Walk
The walk is about a mile, circling the Temple Micah neighborhood. Meet in the sanctuary at the Temple--rain or shine--at noon. The walk will be completed by about 12:30 p.m. and snacks will be available in the social hall afterwards. ANYONE CAN WALK FOR MICAH HOUSE: you do not have to be a religious school student or family member!
Registration
The registration fee is $15 for “youth” (18 and under) and $25 for adults (19 and older). Each walker (or walker's family in the case of children) must complete the online registration form , or pick one up in the Temple lobby. Parents or guardians of walkers under the age of 18 must "sign" the form (electronic or hard copy) to authorize their children to participate. Please return paper forms and checks (or cash) to Temple Micah by October 21st, the Sunday before the walk. You are also welcome to register at the Temple on the day of the mini-walk.
If you pay by cash or check, every penny of your registration fee will go to Micah House! You can also pay safely and securely with a credit card via paypal with our online registration form. PayPal will charge Micah House a small fee for accepting your credit card payment.
Background
Historically, the Micah House Miniwalk has been one of the miniwalks conducted in connection with Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Walkathon. In past years, Fannie Mae pledged to award Micah House a bonus based on the number of people walking for Micah House. A typical year’s goal was $15,000, and Micah House received 100 percent of each walker’s registration fee and all sponsorship funds for that walker. In recent years, we raised over $22,000 from registration fees and the bonus.
Due to budgetary cutbacks, Fannie Mae considerably reduced the number of miniwalks it would sponsor starting in 2011. Unfortunately, Micah House was just one of many worthwhile organizations that lost out.
With no funding from Fannie Mae, your support is even more important than ever!
Did You Know?
The miniwalk is Micah House’s single largest fundraiser. And although Micah House is closely connected to Temple Micah, Micah House receives no funding from Temple Micah.
