Help the Homeless Miniwalk
Fall walk to benefit Micah House
Every October (in 2008 it will be on Oct. 26), families in the religious school and other members of the congregation join in a "mini-walk" to benefit Micah House, Temple Micah's transitional housing program for homeless women in recovery from substance abuse.
The Walk
The walk is about a mile, circling the Temple Micah neighborhood. Meet in the sanctuary at the Temple--rain or shine--at noon and get your T-shirt. The walk will be completed by about 12:30 p.m. and snacks will be available in the social hall afterwards. ANYONE CAN WALK FOR MICAH HOUSE: you do not have to be a religious school student or family member!
Registration
The registration fee has been $15 for "youth" (25 and under) and $25 for adults (26 and older). Each walker must complete a separate registration form, available here by download or in the Temple lobby, and return it to the Temple office. Please fill in "Temple Micah" under school/organization and "MICAH" for designated organization code. Parents or guardians of children under 18 must sign the form for their children to participate. Please return forms and checks (or cash) to the Temple Micah office by Wed. Oct. 26th in order to get a T-shirt on the date of the walk. You are welcome to register at the Temple on the day of the mini-walk; but if you do, you will receive your T-shirt on a later date.
Background
The walk is one of the miniwalks conducted in connection with Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Walkathon. Fannie Mae has pledged to award Micah House $2,000 to $25,000 based on the number of people who walk for Micah House. Micah House also receives 100 percent of each walker's registration fee and all sponsorship funds for that walker. In 2004, we raised over $27,000; in 2005 we raised over $24,000; in 2006 and in 2007 we raised about the same amount.
