Help-the-Homeless Walkers Reap Record Amount for Micah House
[from April 2007 Vine]
Temple Micah members and students from two local schools raised a record $26,718 for Micah House during Help-the-Homeless walkathons last fall. The Fannie Mae Foundation recently reported that 772 people participated in the walks, enough to earn a $15,000 bonus.
The walkers included religious school students and other Micah members as well as students from Hearst and Watkins elementary schools in the District, which held their own walks. Although there were slightly fewer walkers than the 802 in 2005, the walkathon benefited from a "Friends of Micah House Partnership" that contributed more than $3,000 and earned a $2,000 match from the Fannie Mae Foundation. The total amount raised was nearly $4,600 more than the previous year--a 20 percent increase.
Income from the annual walkathon accounts for about one-third of Micah House's revenue and is its largest source of support.
