Spring Mitzvah (Passover) Project for Foster Children
My father was a wandering Aramean (Deut. 26:5)
Just like our ancestors in ancient Egypt, foster children in the Washington D.C. area have to quickly pack their bags and roam their own personal desert between foster homes and care institutions. And for many the only suitcase they have for their precious few personal belongings is an ordinary plastic garbage bag.
As part of its new goal of performing a mitzvah for every major Jewish holiday, Temple Micah's Passover project provides luggage and toiletries to Washington area children in foster care. Of the many things that could be offered, foster services tells us this is the greatest need.
This is what you can do:
- To cover the cost of a new duffel bag, send a check to Temple Micah, with "Spring Mitzvah project" on the memo line. The suggested contribution is $36--"double chai".
- Bring the following trial or hotel size items to Temple Micah and put them in the "Project Passover" box in the Galleria: Shampoo and conditioner; Hair elastics; Hair brush and comb; Washcloths; Hand and body lotion; Soap; Toothpaste; Deodorant
Children in our religious school will stuff the items in the duffel bags. These will be distributed to foster children during Passover through the Department of Foster Care in the District's Children and Family Services Agency. Passover begins April 2, 2007 at sundown.
