Share Your Hanukkah, Spread the Light

Holiday gifts to needy families

Temple Micah launched a mitzvah project in December, 2004, called "Share Your Hanukkah, Spread the Light." Temple Micah provides requested holiday gifts for adults and children in needy families in conjunction with Linkages to Learning, a Montgomery County and DC social service agencies. It is a wonderful way to celebrate Hanukkah by sharing our holiday with neighbors who are oppressed by so many basic needs. What better lesson could there be to share with our own children? What better way to spend a night of Hanukkah than to go shopping as a family buying gifts and even basic necessities for those whose needs go unmet during so much of the year?

How can I Help?

Shop!  Let us know how many people you can shop for and we’ll send you their “wish lists”.  It costs between $25-40 to shop for each person on the list.  Then drop off the gifts at Micah on a designated Sunday in December.

You can sign up to be a Family Coordinator.  We’ll provide you with a few family “wish lists” and give you a list of volunteers who have signed up to shop.  You will communicate with the volunteers, send shopping lists and reminders about the gift drop-off.

Volunteers will be needed to coordinate ("quarterback") the purchases and to do the buying.  Please sign up on the sheet in the galleria or by email.
