Gathering of the Tents
Where does hope live? Come join us in a nationwide gathering to give hope to the people of Darfur with a call to action by the rest of the world.
Communities
across the US and abroad have been invited to transform refugee tents
into unique works of art that express our compassion and desire for
peace for the people of Darfur, Sudan.
Temple Micah is one of the over 300 communities who have participated in this extraordinary campaign. Last Spring, we decorated 1' x 1' tent patches which were hand delivered to the refugee camps in Chad. There, Darfuri children decorated the other side of the patches. They are being sewn together in Africa to become another tent of hope.
This summer and fall, Temple Micah volunteers, young and old, decorated our very own tent. It is a beautiful expression of tikkun olam, doing our small part to repair the world in Darfur. Now, we will participate in the national gathering of tents on the mall in D.C. As the Tents of Hope web site says:
"Join
us on Nov. 7-9, 2008 at the National Mall in Washington, DC, on a
journey of hope and compassion as we display the painted simulated
refugee tents to create awareness and support for the people of Darfur,
Sudan. It's our hope that these tents will serve as pathways to
concrete action. It's our hope that these tents will help lead to the
advocacy necessary to stop the genocide in Darfur."
Weekend activities will include national speakers, celebrities, entertainment, children’s activities, seminars and workshops, an Interfaith Worship Service, films, and other presentations.". Highlights are listed below. The full program is on the Tents of Hope Site.
We are also selling great looking t-shirts, proceeds of which support this campaign. They are $15. Please drop off or mail your payment, made out to Temple Micah, with note: Tent t-shirt.
Also, please bring used cell phones to the office. We will send them to an organization which sells them to raise money for Save Darfur organizations.
