Funerals, Shiva and Yahrzeits
Current Funerals/Shivas
Funerals
When a death occurs, the whole Temple Micah community reaches out to the bereaved family to try to ease the pain, trauma and confusion at this difficult time. The Rabbi helps to make the funeral arrangements and the Temple Office notifies the congregation about the death. A Cemetery Trustee is available to help with various details and order food for the traditional light meal that follows internment. If the burial is to take place at the Temple Micah Cemetery, the Trustee assists the family with those arrangements.
Sitting Shiva
After the burial, Jews traditionally observe a week-long formal mourning period, called Shiva (the Hebrew word for seven). At Temple Micah, this observance varies. In consultation with the family, the Rabbi arranges for a service in the mourners’ home. The Office notifies the congregation about time and place.
Yahrzeits
For those who have provided information to the Temple, a Yahrzeit notice will be sent. Yahrzeits are commemorated on Friday evening and Saturday. Individuals who wish to make a brief oral presentation in commemoration of a loved one, should contact the Temple office about the availability of the desired date.
Yahrzeit will be observed for these relatives and friends of the Micah Community at the following Shabbat Services:
