DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled.\n\n\n\nHistorically\, each Shabb
 at morning\, we read a section of the Prophets that corresponds to the tim
 e of year or to the theme of the Torah portion. This ritual is called haft
 arah. Over the past few years at Micah\, we have undertaken a project of c
 reating new readings for haftarah. Why did we at Micah take on this projec
 t\, how did we decide what to include\, and above all\, what can the hafta
 rah offer us as modern American Jews?\nAbout the Speaker\nRabbi Samantha F
 rank was raised in Silver Spring\, MD and graduated from Tufts University\
 , where she earned her B.A. in French and Community Health. She was ordain
 ed at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. Befor
 e becoming a Rabbi\, she taught English in France and worked at the NYU Ch
 ild Study Center in mental health policy. She was honored to be a Bonnie a
 nd Daniel Tisch Rabbinical Fellow\, recipient of the BeWise Fellowship for
  entrepreneurship\, and was named one of 36 Under 36 Innovators Lighting t
 he Way by the New York Jewish Week. She and her partner Avi are the deligh
