Lunch and Learn with Rabbi Melanie Aron – The History & Implications of the term ‘Judeo-Christian’

The term Judeo-Christian is often used without an awareness of its history or of its present implications. Is there a Judeo-Christian ethic? What is gained and lost in stressing the similarities in these two religious heritages?

About Rabbi Melanie Aron

After a decade serving congregations in the New York Metropolitan area, in 1990 Rabbi Aron became the rabbi at Congregation Shir Hadash, a congregation that served the Silicon Valley area in Northern California. She retired from that congregation in 2020, having served the community as chair of The Interfaith Council on Race, Religion, Economic and Social Justice, bringing Shir Hadash as the first synagogue into community organizing with People Acting in Community Together, a PICO affiliate, and sponsoring an Arab-Jewish Dialogue group that met for a decade. She also served on the ethics committee at Santa Clara Kaiser Hospital. As a board member of the then-Union of American Hebrew Congregations, she was chair of the Adult Learning Committee. In retirement, she has enjoyed participating in Micah’s Shabbat morning Torah study, doing some adult teaching, and exploring once again what it means to be a Jew rather than a rabbi.
