DESCRIPTION:Join us for a contemplative evening as we begin our communal sp
 iritual preparation for the new year. This Saturday night at 8 p.m.\, we w
 ill gather in the back of the sanctuary for Selichot.\n\nSelichot are pray
 ers and poems centered on teshuvah—repentance\, return\, reorientation. 
 Sephardic Jews recite Selichot throughout the entire month of Elul\, tradi
 tionally before dawn. Ashkenazi Jews begin late at night on the Saturday b
 efore Rosh Hashanah and continue in the early mornings that follow.\n\nThe
 re is so much to process and encounter during the High Holidays\, and our 
 tradition wisely gives us time to prepare ourselves. Through music\, litur
 gy\, contemplative singing\, and reflection\, the practice of gathering fo
 r Selichot invites us to begin internalizing some of the central themes an
 d melodies that will accompany us through the days ahead.\n\nThere is some
 thing mysterious and poetic about gathering in the darkness\, before the s
 un has risen\, as summer gives way to fall\, to continue the process of fo
 rgiveness and return. We hope you'll join us.\n\n\n\nOpen to all\; no adva
