A Memory Book for Rabbi Daniel G. Zemel

December 2024

Dear Temple Micah Members and Former Members,

As part of our celebration of Rabbi Zemel ahead of his retirement, we are making a memory book. But we can’t make a memory book without memories — specifically, your memories!

Beginning on Monday, January 27, 2025, we’ll be soliciting memories for the book. We’ll send an email at that time with a link for submission, but we wanted to give you plenty of time to think of what memory you’ll want to write up and send. We will ask that you submit them by Monday, March 31, 2025.

We encourage you to make your note specific — we want this book to share the wide array of experiences that this community has had with Rabbi Zemel over the past several decades. To that end, we ask that you write your memory in response to one of these prompts:

  • What is your earliest – or favorite – memory of Rabbi Zemel?
  • Is there a time that Rabbi Zemel talked you through a change of mind or heart?
  • How did Rabbi Zemel’s role in an important life cycle event impact you? Or a particular event that you found meaningful?
  • Is there a lesson or idea that Rabbi Zemel taught you about Judaism that has stayed with you? Or a favorite lesson or piece of advice?

We will ask that you keep your answers to a maximum of 150 words. Do not hesitate to reach out to info@templemicah.org if you have any questions.

And most importantly – thank you for participating! We hope this book captures Rabbi Zemel’s tenure at Temple Micah and to include as many of your memories as possible.

Sincerely,

Joshua Berman, Co-Chair

Betsy Broder, Co-Chair
