Our Social Justice Fund in Action

Temple Micah’s Social Justice Fund advances the Human Project by supporting partner organizations or individuals working to make a difference. The Temple Micah Board is proud to share that we recently directed the spending of some of these funds to support local organizations that are on the frontlines of those affected by extreme immigration enforcement, cuts to the federal workforce, attacks on climate change programs, and more.

To that end, this fall, Temple Micah made $10,000 donations to the following three organizations to help fill much needed gaps:

  • Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless: The clinic provides legal services to those experiencing homelessness to ensure that anyone who needs and desires shelter has access to it. The clinic has been a strong voice against attacks on DC’s unhoused residents, which escalated last summer.
  • Capital Area Food Bank: The Capital Area Food Bank is a leading nonprofit addressing food insecurity in the DC area. This year, the Capital Area Food Bank has been working to meet the increased needs stemming from the federal worker layoffs and the government shutdown.
  • Ayuda: Ayuda is a long-standing partner of Temple Micah and Sukkat Shalom and serves immigrants in the DC area. With increased immigration enforcement, the need for immigration legal services has ballooned, and our donation will fund an additional legal clinic.

In the coming weeks and months, we will continue to develop our strategy for spending from the Social Justice Fund, drawing upon the expertise within the congregation.

Make Plans to Get Involved!

We also are exploring how we best leverage our partnerships with local organizations to maximize our impact, engage our own community, and deepen our connections to the world around us.

On the morning of Friday, January 23, 2026, we will be volunteering with the Capital Area Food Bank, where we will pack and sort donations. Details to participate are available here.
