(she/her)
Rabbi Healy Shir Slakman was ordained by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2023 where she previously received a Masters in Jewish Literature. In rabbinical school, she was awarded the distinguished Bonnie and Daniel Tisch Rabbinical Fellowship which brought her to Temple Micah as the rabbinic summer intern in 2021. She is overjoyed to be returning as a full time rabbi and Director of Spiritual Arts where she will design and lead Temple Micah’s music in worship and manage the b’nai Mitzvah program.
Rabbi Slakman was raised in a Sephardic/Ashkenazi Israeli/American Jewish home. She grew up in San Francisco, CA, St. Louis, MO, and Atlanta, GA with summers spent in Ramla, Israel and she completed her undergraduate degree at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. During her years studying at HUC New York, Rabbi Slakman served as student rabbi at Brooklyn Heights Synagogue and Kolot Chayeinu, played musical Shabbat services for communities across Brooklyn, and established a young professional musical Shabbat community called The Other Friday Night which is now a spiritual home for hundreds of Brooklyn-based Jews. She also writes and publishes recipes centering traditional Jewish Tunisian food, and is interested in approaching the complexities of Jewish culture, identity, and tradition through cooking, sharing meals, art, and telling stories. In the past, Rabbi Slakman spent many summers singing at URJ Camp Coleman and Kutz camp. Nowadays, when not at Micah, you can find her running outside, listening to jazz music, painting, and kvelling over love poetry.
