(he/him)
Rabbi Josh Beraha has served Temple Micah since 2014, where he is known for his curiosity and creative approach to Jewish life. He believes Judaism is not a nostalgia project, but a living tradition still in bloom–one that flourishes through questions, dialogue, and shared community.
Josh earned his BA in History and Hebrew Literature from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MA in Special Education through the New York City Teaching Fellows Program. Before becoming a rabbi, he taught students with special needs at a public school on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. During his rabbinical studies at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion, he was awarded the prestigious Tisch Rabbinical Fellowship and served as a rabbinic intern at Temple Micah beginning in 2012. After ordination in 2014, he returned to Micah full-time.
At Micah, Josh regularly delivers sermons that connect Jewish tradition to contemporary life and collaborates with clergy and musicians to shape worship that is liturgically grounded and creatively alive. He mentors b’nai mitzvah students, guides families through lifecycle moments, and offers pastoral presence at times of both joy and uncertainty. He also helped launch the Micah Storefront Project, bringing Jewish learning and ritual into public spaces across Washington, D.C.
Josh lives in D.C. with his wife, Nani, and their three lively children. When he’s not at Temple Micah you can find him brewing coffee, spinning vinyl, or searching for the city’s best bread.
