Join us for a candid conversation with Micah members Zach and Rachel Cohen about what it’s like to cover Congress and federal agencies in today’s political climate. As journalists with a decade of experience each, they’ll share behind-the-scenes stories from the Trump era, how the job has changed, and what it’s taught us about democracy, public service, and the power of the press.
Zach Cohen covers Congress for Bloomberg Tax, where he’s tasked with covering Republicans’ multi-trillion-dollar tax bill. He previously covered Senate leadership and elections — including impeachment trials and Supreme Court confirmations — for Bloomberg Government and National Journal. Zach’s work since 2014 has been published by The Washington Post, The Atlantic, TIME Magazine, and USA Today, and he frequently offers on-air analysis for Bloomberg TV and Radio, C-SPAN, Fox News, CBSN, and SiriusXM. He also occasionally lectures on American politics and governance at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management.
Rachel Cohen covers Congress for Air and Space Forces Magazine. She has reported on the military and the defense industry since 2016, from deep inside nuclear missile silos in California to the cabin of the new MH-139 helicopter over Philadelphia. Before rejoining Air and Space Forces Magazine, Rachel covered the Air Force, Space Force and Congress for Military Times and Inside Defense. She has accompanied the defense secretary, the head of the National Guard and the Air Force chief of staff on official travel and reported on operations from military bases across the U.S., Guam and Europe. She has also written on federal and state agencies, the judiciary, and more for the Washington Post, The Frederick News-Post (Md.) and Inside Health Policy.
Both long time Micah members, Zach and Rachel live in Silver Spring with their son Eli and black lab Mia.
