The frame drum is one of the oldest percussion instruments in the world and deeply rooted in the musical cultures of the Middle East and North Africa. In this Middle Eastern Percussion Workshop, we will meet monthly to learn the fundamental techniques and dive into traditional rhythms that echo through centuries of celebration, ritual, and storytelling. This is an opportunity to connect with part of a musical tradition that has brought people together across generations and cultures.

This class is led by Temple Micah’s Artist-in-Residence, Philip Mayer.

Purchasing a Frame Drum

There is no cost to register; however, participants are highly encouraged to purchase a frame drum for use in this class.

We recommend these options, 14-20″ diameter (16″ is a great starting point):

1. Lower-end frame drum (most affordable option)

2. Medium-end frame drum

3. High-end/professional frame drum

If cost is an issue, please reach out to us.
