Join us for Oneg at 6 p.m., then light candles with us, join in Kiddush, and enjoy challah as we welcome Shabbat together in-person at Temple Micah or online. This evening, we will celebrate HIAS’ Eighth Annual Refugee Shabbat to express our solidarity with the global Jewish movement for refugee protection and welcome.
Our guest speaker will be Joanne Lin, Executive Director of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, an organization that Sukkat Shalom has been proud to support through the generosity of Temple Micah donors. Under Joanne’s leadership, the Lawyers’ Committee just helped score an important legal victory for immigrants, refugees, and religious freedom more broadly when a U.S. District Court curbed the Department of Homeland Security’s authority to conduct immigration raids at some houses of worship.
We’ll also be joined by several community partners doing vital work to protect immigrants, including HIAS and Ayuda.
